Welcome to my website!

Since this is my first blog, I decided to share with you how I got here.  Trust me, it’s a long story but it is one worth sharing.  To begin with, I wrote my first book and gave it to my girlfriend when I was thirteen years old.  But just like a typical adolescent trying to navigate my emotions and define who I was when no definitions had been set, I got mad, took the book back and threw it away.  Imagine that, my best masterpiece torn to pieces… After that, my writing went dormant.  I only wrote when I had to and even then, I struggled.  However, once I entered college, I started to journal.  My first college experience wasn’t that great.  I was trapped between two competing priorities: studying and playing basketball.  The end result, I lost them both.  First I flunked out of school.  Secondly, the thing I loved most betrayed me and I lost the desire to compete.

My second college experience, changed everything.  I no longer wanted to entertain, instead, I wanted to be intellectually entertained.  In the process, I met several strong, beautiful, intelligent women all fighting to make things better and they confirmed for me what my mother had always told me.  I was much better than what I had been projecting.  Up to that point, I had spent my life allowing others to create and define a narrative about me that just wasn’t true.  Then something happened.  At the suggestion of one of my friends, I took a feminist theory course.  This course helped me to understand the world through my own lens.  Suddenly, my feelings had definition.  I realized that if constructed correctly, a sentence could change ones world view.  That’s why I write.  I love to tell delicate stories that push limits; especially those limits that have been artificially created.  I love to develop flawed characters that find their way.  I love being used by God to tell stories and watching firsthand how the stories engage the reader to think openly about themselves and others.  So if you find yourself in one of my characters, I hope you enjoy the journey.
